Welcome to Kindergarten Cowgirl!

(source)

Howdy!

For thirteen years, I have been teaching Kindergarten. People, I have seen it all... and lived to tell the tale. This year I woke up one morning and realized: I was on the verge of a burnout. My tail was dragging, I lacked enthusiasm, and I had a giant class full of behavior problems to boot.

What is an old cowgirl to do?

After some serious soul searching, and a couple of nice long rides on my trusty horse King (he's a great listener!), it hit me. I am so busy sticking with the old ways, I am not seeing all the incredible, exciting opportunities there are in education today!

Kids are different nowadays. There's no mistaking that. Instant gratification and something I like to call "Entitlement Disorder" are the themes of the day. But Kindergarteners are still the littlest and most malleable students: full of energy, tons of crazy fun, excited to learn and soak up all the cool stuff I can throw at them. There's a reason God put me here, and it is time for me to get busy being the very best teacher I can be!

So I joined Pinterest. I started following some AMAZING teachers and pinning all the exciting activities and lessons that they were creating. I visited blogs, I learned about Teachers Pay Teachers (who knew?!) and I started to get excited... REALLY excited.... about my profession again.

I hope that you will support me on this journey into a new beyond of Kindergarten education. I have a lot of catching up to do, technology being just the tip of the iceberg. But I am feeling that old surge of enthusiasm welling up inside me again and I can't wait to start blogging about my progress.

Welcome to my ranch!

  2. "Entitlement Disorder" -- I love it.

Anyone who talks to her horse and lives surrounded by animals (plus husband and child of course) is someone I would love to know.

Welcome to the world of blogging. You are a great addition.

    Warm regards,
